Gambling in Greece
Posted May 4, 2011 – 4:01 am in: Online GamblingTixeria-Paixnida.gr a Greek site focused on Greek gambling, especially casino and card related games, reports that the European Union comity has once again rejected the Greek government request of reform in online gambling. This is the second time the Greek government applies and receives a negative feedback.
The Greek government, Tixeria-Paixnida.gr says, finds gambling as a matter of urgency since it plans a strict tax plan that could revive the collapsing economy of Greece. An expected prospect could mean over 700 million Euros a year solely in tax money.
The problem, it seems, is internal within Greece, as some politicians has an opposite idea regarding online gambling legislation. They fear this would encourage the already hunger-struck nation common people to engage in an activity that would put the little savings they have in risk. The Greek politicians also debate between themselves as for the status of OPAP - the current Greek gambling monopoly, funded by the state.
