U.S. Online Gambling May Have Hope After All
Posted November 24, 2008 – 7:40 am in: Gambling NewsWith the rate things are going, there may be some hope for U.S. online gambling. It can be recalled that the Bush administration was actually putting a halt to it for free of the rise of money laundering. Thus, a lot of online gamblers in the United States are no longer allowed to participate in any game. If they are allowed, the number of games that they can play is also very limited. Making things worse, most of the online gambling sites do not accept U.S. players.
The Move Premature
According to Barney Frank, a U.S. congressman, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is actually a very premature move of the government because it will definitely have a negative impact on the financial services industry in the country. Moreover, Frank added—in a letter he sent to Henry Paulson, the treasury secretary—that the implementation of the regulations has been done in haste and that it will be a lot harder for the new administration to maneuver their economy since it will definitely hurt their financial services. It will also not be good at this time when the rest of the country and even the world is suffering from economic crunch.
The congressman further believes that anyone, including U.S. citizens, will have the full responsibility of their actions and that they have the sole right in what they are going to do with their own money.
The Stand of the Government
This move of the government actually started in 2006. They have considered online payments for online gambling sites to be a criminal offense, and certain gambling activities are also considered to be felony or a crime against the state. Some supporters of the said legislation believed that it will boost the morale of their youth and prevent chronic gamblers from becoming even more addicted to the online games.
What to Do while Waiting
Hopefully, the new administration will be easing up on online gambling, especially if they are going to see the potential benefits it will do on their financial industry. By then, the gambling market will no longer be dominated by the NFL or National Football League, which was exempted by the ban simply because it’s not a game of chance but of skill. As a result, it has been reaping huge revenues from players all over the country. In fact, there are plenty of clubs or associations that are mainly focused on NFL.
Meanwhile, all U.S. players should continue to observe the regulations. It is very important that even before you decide to play, you already have a good idea if it can allow U.S. citizens to enjoy the game. Furthermore, different states may have different online gambling regulations, and it’s something that you should be aware of. Know which kinds of games are considered to be felony and which ones are allowed. If you want to play, you can look for online gambling sites that accept U.S. players, but then you know that it’s going to be such a huge risk.
